Stress Tolerance and Virulence-Related Roles of Lipopolysaccharide in Burkholderia glumae
Chaeyeong Lee, Mohamed Mannaa, Namgyu Kim, Juyun Kim, Yeounju Choi, Soo Hyun Kim, Boknam Jung, Hyun-Hee Lee, Jungkwan Lee, Young-Su Seo 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 5호 6 445-458 (14 pages)
The lipopolysaccharide (LPS) composed of lipid A, core, and O-antigen is the fundamental constituent of the outer membrane in gram-negative bacteria. This study was conducted to investigate the roles of LPS in Burkholderia glumae, the phytopathogen causing bacterial panicle blight and seedling rot in rice. To study the roles of the core oligosaccharide (OS) and the Oantigen region, mutant strains targeting the waaC and the wbiFGHI genes were generated. The LPS profile was greatly affected by... -
Virulence Attenuation of Pectobacterium carotovorum Using N-Acyl-homoserine Lactone Degrading Bacteria Isolated from Potato Rhizosphere
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2011, 27권 3호 5 242-248 (7 pages)
Several soil bacteria were found to degrade N-Acylhomoserine lactones (NAHLs), thereby interfering with the bacterial quorum sensing system. In this research, fifteen strains of NAHL degrading rhizobacteria were isolated from potato rhizosphere. Based on phenotypic characteristics and 16S rDNA sequence analyses, the strains were identified as members of genera Bacillus, Streptomyces, Arthrobacter, Pseudomonas and Mesorhizobium. All tested isolates were capable to degrade both synthetic and... -
Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials: a review of synthesis, structure, and applications
Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 16 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 5 89-104 (16 pages)
Materials with appropriate surface roughness and low surface energy can form superhydrophobic surfaces, displaying water contact angles greater than 150°. Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials are particularly interesting due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. This review discusses the various techniques used to produce superhydrophobic carbon-based materials such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, amorphous carbons, etc. Recent advances in emerging fields such as... -
Prevalence and characteristics of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) from cattle in Korea between 2010 and 2011
Eun Kang, Sun Young Hwang, Ka Hee Kwon, Ki Yeon Kim, Jae Hong Kim, Yong Ho Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 3호 5 369-379 (11 pages)
A total of 156 Shiga-like toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) were isolated from fecal samples of Korean native (100/568, 18%) and Holstein dairy cattle (56/524, 11%) in Korea between September 2010 and July 2011. Fifty-two STEC isolates (33%) harbored both of shiga toxin1 (stx1) and shiga toxin2 (stx2) genes encoding enterohemolysin (EhxA) and autoagglutinating adhesion (Saa) were detected by PCR in 83 (53%) and 65 (42%) isolates, respectively. By serotyping, six STEC from native cattle and...
