Water Extract of Samultang Reduces Apoptotic Cell Death by H2O2-Induced Oxidative Injury in SK-N-MC Cells
GyoungWanLee, MinSunKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 1 139-145 (7 pages)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the water extract of Samultang (SMT), a Chinese herb, on apoptotic cell death by H2O2-induced oxidative stress in SK-N-MC cells. A nuclear fragmentation was observed via fluorescence imaging 12 h after exposure to 30ՌM H2O2 and DNA laddering was detected via agarose electrophoresis gel. In addition, increases in sub-G1 phase and cleavage of the PARP protein were observed. However, treatment with SMT for 2 h prior to H2O2... -
Janus Kinase 2 Inhibitor AG490 Inhibits the STAT3 Signaling Pathway by Suppressing Protein Translation of gp130
InAeSeo, HyunKyoungLee, YoonKyungShin, SangHwaLee, Su-YeongSeo, JiWookPark, HwanTaePark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.2 9 131-137 (7 pages)
The binding of interleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine family ligands to the gp130 receptor complex activates the Janus kinase (JAK)/ signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signal transduction pathway, where STAT3 plays an important role in cell survival and tumorigenesis. Constitutive activation of STAT3 has been frequently observed in many cancer tissues, and thus, blocking of the gp130 signaling pathway, at the JAK level, might be a useful therapeutic approach for the suppression of... -
Melatonin Induces Akt Phosphorylation through Melatonin Receptor- and PI3K-Dependent Pathways in Primary Astrocytes

increased Akt activation was also significantly decreased with luzindole, a non-selective melatonin receptor antagonist. As downstream signaling pathway of Akt activation, increased levels of CREB phoshorylation and GDNF expression were observed, which were also attenuated with wortmannin and luzindole. These results strongly suggest that melatonin exerts its neuroprotective property in astrocytes through the activation of plasma membrane receptors and then PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. -
A1 Receptor-mediated Protection against Amyloid Beta-induced Injury in Human Neuroglioma Cells

caspase-9. The protective effect of adenosine disappeared when cells were pretreated with 5-hydroxydecanoate, a selective blocker of the mitochondrial ATP-sensitive K channel. In conclusion, therefore we suggest that adenosine exerts protective effect against Aβ-induced cell death of A172 cells, and that the underlying mechanism of the protection may be attributed to preservation of mitochondrial functional integrity through opening of the mitochondrial ATP-sensitive K channels. -
Effects of Pharmacological Modulators of Ca2+-activated K+ Channels on Proliferation of Human Dermal Fibroblast
JihyunYun, TaehoKim, SoonchulMyung, HyoweonBang, InjaLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.2 6 95-100 (6 pages)
Employing electrophysiological and cell proliferation assay techniques, we studied the effects of Ca2- activated K channel modulators on the proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts, which is important in wound healing. Macroscopic voltage-dependent outward K currents were found at about 40 mV stepped from a holding potential of 70 mV. The amplitude of K current was increased by NS1619, a specific large-conductance Ca2-activated K (BK)... -
Protective Effect of Defibrotide on Splanchnic Injury following Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.2 5 85-94 (10 pages)
A splanchic artery occlusion for 90 min followed by reperfusion of the mesenteric circulation resulted in a severe form of circulatory shock, characterized by endothelial dysfunction, severe hypotension, marked intestinal tissue injury, and a high mortality rate. The effect of defibrotide, a complex of single-stranded polydeoxyribonucleotides having antithrombotic effect, was investigated in a model of splanchnic artery occlusion (SAO) shock in urethane anesthetized rats. Occlusion of the... -
Differential Functional Expression of Clotrimazole-sensitive Ca2+-activated K+ Current in Bal-17 and WEHI-231 Murine B Lymphocytes

B lymphocytes, respectively. The whole-cell patch clamp with high-Ca2 (0.8μM) KCl pipette solution revealed a voltage-independent K current that was blocked by clotrimazole (1 mM), an SK4 blocker. The expression of mRNAs for SK4 was confirmed in both Bal-17 and WEHI-231 cells. The density of clotrimazole-sensitive SK4 current was significantly larger in Bal-17 than WEHI-231 cells (11.4⁑3.1 Vs. 5.7⁑1.15 pA/pF). Also, the chronic stimulation of B cell... -

To investigate whether BF-7, extracted from Bombyx mori, improved learning and memory of ordinary people, Rey-Kim Memory Test was performed with placebo group (32 persons), 200 mg BF-7 treated group (33 persons) and 400 mg BF-7 treated group (34 persons). BF-7 enhanced significantly learning and memory function in a dose-dependent manner. To know how BF-7 plays such a positive role, we measured the concentration of acetylcholine in the brain from memory impairment animal model. Treatment of BF-7... -
Role of Stretch-Activated Channels in Stretch-Induced Changes of Electrical Activity
JaeBoumYoum, Su-HyunJo, ChaeHunLeem, Won-KyungHo, YungE. 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.1 6 33-41 (9 pages)
We developed a cardiac cell model to explain the phenomenon of mechano-electric feedback (MEF), based on the experimental data with rat atrial myocytes. It incorporated the activity of ion channels, pumps, exchangers, and changes of intracellular ion concentration. Changes in membrane excitability and Ca2 transients could then be calculated. In the model, the major ion channels responsible for the stretch-induced changes in electrical activity were the stretch-activated channels (SACs).... -
Cooperation of Gβ and Gαq Protein in Contractile Response of Cat Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES)
UyDongSohnTaiSangLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 9 349-355 (7 pages)
We previously shown that LES contraction depends on M3 receptors linked to PTX insensitive Gq protein and activation of PLC. This results in production of IP3, which mediates calcium release, and contraction through a CaM dependent pathway. In the esophagus ACh activates M2 receptors linked to PTX sensitive Gi3 protein, resulting in activation of PLD, presumably, production of DAG. We investigated the role of PLC isozymes which can be activated by Gq or Gβ protein on ACh-induced contraction in...
