1 3-16 (14 pages)
Revelations of Lao Tzu’s Views on Human Nature to Counseling
10 Pages
2014, Vol.6 No.1 2 13-22 (10 pages)
Tao Te Ching, the Taoist classic written by Lao Tzu, not only expounds the way (Tao) of the universe, but also well presents Lao Tzu’s views on human nature, psychological problems and the causes, propositions of a mature person, etc. These profound thoughts can bring valuable revelations to counselors, especially those who serve in East Asia. -
Patterns of Psychosocial Adaptation to Chronic Illness and Disability
Jeong Han Kim, Norman L. Berven Yves, Ambroise Summer, Ibarra Tae Sun Kim 한국교육치료학회 교육치료연구 22 Pages
2010, Vol.2 No.2 1 1-22 (22 pages)
This study examined the patterns of psychosocial adaptation to chronic illness and disability(CID), defined in terms of subjective well-being and coping strategies in a sample of 100 individuals with various CID conditions. Cluster analysis revealed four distinct clusters of respondents, suggesting a varying degree of psychosocial adaptation. These clusters were labeled succumbing(n=9), surviving(n=40), resilient(n=41), and thriving(n=10). Our findings indicate that resilient and succumbing... -
Participation of central GABAA receptors in the trigeminal processing of mechanical allodynia in rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages

reversed the IL-1β-induced mechanical allodynia. In the control group, application of GABA (100 μM) or muscimol (3 μM) led to membrane hyperpolarization in gramicidin perforated current clamp mode. However, in some neurons, application of GABA or muscimol led to membrane depolarization in the IL-1β-treated rats. These results suggest that some large myelinated Aβ fibers gain access to the nociceptive system and elicit pain sensation via GABAA receptors under inflammatory pain conditions. -
Metabotropic glutamate receptor dependent long-term depression in the cortex
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2016, Vol.20 No.6 1 557-564 (8 pages)
Metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR)-dependent long-term depression (LTD), a type of synaptic plasticity, is characterized by a reduction in the synaptic response, mainly at the excitatory synapses of the neurons. The hippocampus and the cerebellum have been the most extensively studied regions in mGluR-dependent LTD, and Group 1 mGluR has been reported to be mainly involved in this synaptic LTD at excitatory synapses. However, mGluR-dependent LTD in other brain regions may be involved in the... -
DAMGO modulates two-pore domain K+ channels in the substantia gelatinosa neurons of rat spinal cord
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2016, Vol.20 No.5 10 525-531 (7 pages)
The analgesic mechanism of opioids is known to decrease the excitability of substantia gelatinosa (SG) neurons receiving the synaptic inputs from primary nociceptive afferent fiber by increasing inwardly rectifying K+ current. In this study, we examined whether a μ-opioid agonist, [D-Ala2,N-Me-Phe4, Gly5-ol]-enkephalin (DAMGO), affects the two-pore domain K+ channel (K2P) current in rat SG neurons using a slice whole-cell patch clamp technique. Also we confirmed which subtypes of K2P channels... -
Resveratrol Inhibits GABAC Ց Receptor-Mediated Ion Currents Expressed in Xenopus Oocytes

Resveratrol is a phytoalexin found in grapes, red wine, and berries. Resveratrol has been known to have many beneficial health effects, such as anti-cancer, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and life-prolonging effects. However, relatively little is known about the effects of resveratrol on the regulation of ligand-gated ion channels. We have previously reported that resveratrol regulates subsets of homomeric ligand-gated ion channels such as those of 5-HT3A receptors. The Ճ-aminobutyric... -
Ginsenosides Have a Suppressive Effect on c-Fos Expression in Brain and Reduce Cardiovascular Responses Increased by Noxious Stimulation to the Rat Tooth
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.2 2 121-125 (5 pages)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the antinociceptive effects of ginsenosides on toothache. c-Fos immunoreactive (IR) neurons were examined after noxious intrapulpal stimulation (NS) by intrapulpal injection of 2 M KCl into upper and lower incisor pulps exposed by bone cutter in Sprague Dawley rats. The number of Fos-IR neurons was increased in the trigeminal subnucleus caudalis (Vc) and the transitional region between Vc and subnucleus interpolaris (Vi) by NS to tooth. The intradental... -
c-Fos Expression in the Nucleus of the Solitary Tract in Response to Salt Stimulation in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

six subregions in each of bilateral NST were compared between applications of distilled water and different concentrations of NaCl to the tongue of experimental animals. From this study, salt stimulation with high concentration (1.0 M NaCl) induced significantly higher c-Fos expression in intermediate NST and dorsal-medial and dorsal-middle subregions of the NST compared to distilled water stimulation. The result represents the specific spatial distribution of salt taste perception in the NST.
