한국산 밤나방에 관해서는 1880년대부터 1904년에 이르기까지 Butler, Fixen, Leech, Herz 등 유럽의 곤충학자들에 의해 처음으로 채집 발표되기 시작하였으며 그 후 Okamoto, Matsumura등 일본인들과 스웨덴인 Bryk(1948)에 의하여 추가로 많은 종들이 기록되었었다. 특히 Leech, Herz, Bryk 등에 의한 조사자료는 오늘날 우리나라 밤나방에 관한 연구의 토대를 이룩하게 된 셈이다. 필자들은 현재 농업기술연구소와 국립과학관에 보관되어 있는 표본들을 대상으로 분류 동정한 결과 1종의 신종과 43종의 우리나라 미기록종 및 외국 문헌상에는 이미 보고되어 있으나 우리나라에 알려지지 않았던 8종을 분류 동정하고 이들을 발표하는 바이다.
One species of the genus Trisuloides belonging to Pantheinae was described as new species and forty-three species; one species of Pantheinae, two of Noctuinae, seven of Hadeninae, six of Cuculliinae. seven of Acronictinae, two of Acontiinae, two of Eutelliinae, two of Chloephorinae, one of Plusiinae, seven of Ophiderinae, sin species of Hypeninae, were newly added to the fauna of Korean noctuid moths. And eight species which previously reported from Korea (South and North) by foreign entomologists, but has not been known in the Korean literatures, were firstly introduced.
