Sialography is a valuable diagnostic procedurein accurate diagnosis diagnosis and therapeutic planning of the diseases of major salivary glands. The purpose of this paper is to review the technical aspect of method and to evaluate established disgnostic criteria in various abnormalities of major salivary glands. Authors present 25 cases of sialography which has been routinely performed in those patients with recurrent selling pain, mass or any combination of these signs and symptoms in the area of major salivary glands at National Medica Center from May 1975 to June 1980. The results were as follows ; 1. 2 cases of the stone and stricture, which were easily diagnosed by the filling defect, obstruction and dilatation or irregular narrowing of the main duct of salivary gland, were in the submaxillary gland. 2. 7 cases of the inflammation in major salivary galnds revealed " pruned tree" appearance, and irregular caliber and shape of intraglandular ducts, and punctate or globular ilatation of the interlobular ductules and acini. 3. Among the 5 cases of salivary gland tumors, 4 cases were in the parotid gland. Sialograhic findings showed displacement of the duct, nonopaciified area and pudding or pooling of the contrast material in the gland parenchyme. 4. The retention of the contrast material in postevascuation film and destruction of duct architecture were important findings in differentiation of inflammation and tumors of major sailvary glands.ry glands.
