배추흰나비의 유충을 1령부터 5령까지 그 발생단계에 따라 광학현미경과 전자현미경을 이용하여 미세구조를 연구한 바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 정세포와 피낭세포는 2령에서 서로 달리 분화, 성숙되며 이 시기에 여포상피는 복막초로부터 세포층이 정소내로 함입되어서 형성된다. 여포는 2령에서부터 형성되기 시작하여 4령때에는 4개로 증가하게 되며 여포형성은 4령에서 끝나게 된다. 5령때에 정세포는 정자형태형성과정이 시작된다.
The ultrastructural changes on the testis at larval stages from 1st instar to last during the developmental stage in Pieris rapae were observed using the light microscope and electron microscope. Sperm cell and cyst cell are differently differentiated from at 2nd instar, and mature. The peritoneal sheath developed at this period is invaginated into the testis so that the follicles are formed and the invaginated peritoneal sheath is differentiated to the epithelial sheath, forming the cell wall of the follicle. At 4th instar, the number of the follicle increases to 4 but there is no increase in last instar, demonstrating that follicle formation is slopped at 4th instar. At 5th instar, spermatid begins spermiogenesis.
