Computed tomography is the method of choice for initial evaluation of patients with potential juxtasellar masses. This paper is based on a retrospective study of 131 tumors in juxtasellar area. All were examined with 2nd generation CT scanner (Delta FS 50) and verified histologically. The degree of resolution of the scanner used precludes its reliability for detection tumors less than 1cm in diameter. Out of 9 microadenoma, only 2 were detectable on coronal CT scan. But CT has proved completely reliable for detecting juxtasellar masses, the direction and degree of extension and the presence of any calcific or cystic conponent of the lesion. Many CT appearances are shared by more than one pathologic entity ; a few are specific. However, with the correlation of clinical presentations and further neuroradiological studies, a specific diagnosis is possible in a large proportion of cases.
