A total of 21 cases of small bowel enema by use of 0.5% methylcellulose solution has been tried at Department of radiology, Inje College, Paik Hospital, Pusan from Apr. 1985 to Aug. 1986 and its results were as follows; 1. The success rate of the intubation time was about 95% 2. The mean intubation time was about 14 min. 3. The total mean examination time including the intubation time in small bowel enema was about 42 min, while total mean examination time in conventional per-oral follow-through small bowel series was about 175 min. 4. The abvantages of small bowel enema were as follow; a. The fine mucosal details were clearly seen due to the full distension of small bowel because of rapid injection of barium and methylcellulose solution through the Bilbao-Dotter tube. b. Prevention of overlapping of small bowel loops. c. Dynamic study of small bowels by intermittent fluoroscopy. d. Reduction of total examination time. e. Achevement of more excellent double contrast image in t e jejunum and proximal ileum. 5. The disadvantages of small bowel enema were as follows; a. Difficulty in intubation technique. b. Patient discomportness during intubation. c. Increase in radiation exposure to patient and radiologist.
