In order to study effects of vitamin A and ethanol on the changes in serum lipid contents in rats, sixty rats were divided into four groups; $200{mu}g$ vitamin A, $200{mu}g$ vitamin, A-with-ethanol, $2,000{mu}g$ vitamin A, and $2,000{mu}g$ vitamin A-with-ethanol groups. All animals were fed scheduled diet for 24 weeks. Five rats from each group were selected randomly every eight weeks and sacrificed for the determination of serum lipids and vitamin A. The content of serum vitamin A showed no remarkable change in all groups during the experimental period. Contents of total cholesterol and triglyceride in the serum of vitamin A-with-ethanol groups were rather more than those of vitamin A-without ones. A reason of being increased contents may be attributed to trapping fatty acids due to ethanol. Levels of phospholipid, high density lipoprotein cholosterol, and nonesterified fatty acid in serum did not change notably in all groups under experimental conditions
