All currently used ionic radiographic contrast agents have been reported to cause pain during peripheral arteriography which can be related to their marked hyperosmolality in relation to blood. A number of studies have demonstrated that ultravist (Iopromide) a nonionic contrast agent of relatively low osmolality causes significantly less discomfort and pain than equivalent conventional ionic contrast media. We used Ultravist 300(iopromide) nonionic and Angiografin 60(meglumine diatrizoate) ionic in 30 pa-tients with double blind randomized manner during peripheral angiography, the subjectibve pain was compared. The results were as follows : 1. In comparison of the pain of Ultravist 300 with Angiografin 60 in 30 patients there were observed moderate-ly less pain with Ultravist 300 in 14 cases (46.7%) markedly less pain or no pain in 11 cases (36.75) and no difference in 5 cases (16.6%) 2. Total 25(83,4%) cases show less or no pain with Ultravist 300 which must be due to lower osmolality.
