Percutaneous transcatheter intraarterial chemotherapy was utlized to treat primary tumor in 22 patients with osteosarcoma. The results were assessed by clinical radiographic and path-ologic responses. Eighteen of the 22 patinets remain continuously disease free for 6 to 18 months after initial diagnosis. Pulmonary metastasis occurred in 2 patients with limb salvage surgery and one patient had a local recurrence during maintenance chemotherapy. This method is safe and effective in the preoperative chemotherapy of nonmetastatic osteosarcoma and also promotes limb salvage surgery.
