Digital images were obtained by a high resolution X-ray film scanner and could be manipulated by virtue of magnification, inversion, trace deges, smoothing, sharpening, contrast enhancement and color display. The distance between the selected points and the area of the ROI(region of interest) could be traced and calculated after setting scale. The mean density and the histogram of the ROI could be acquired, too. Write-once, read-many(WORM) optical disks provided convenient, reliable computer-retrievable archives of X-ray images requiring a large number of bits of data. Physicians such as radiologists, who rely on images for their work, could create personal reference collections of images for later retrieval.
