1988~1989년간 경기도 지역의 목장 및 양계장에서 채집된 등에모기 속(Culicoides)의 계절적 발생소장과 흡혈 기주를 조사하기 위하여, 유문등 채집 및 식혈액 동정시침을 수행하였다. 이 기간중 채집된 등에모기는 미동정 3종을 포함하여 총 16종이었다. 목장에서는 C. nipponensis가, 양계장에서는 C. arakawae가 우점종이었다. 목장에서 C. nipponensis는 8월 첫째주에 3510.0마리/trap/night, 양계장에서 C. arakawae는 6월 둘째주에 12153.5마리/trap/night로 각각 최고 발생 peak를 보였다. C. amamiensis는 닭을 C. oxystoma는 소를 각각 흡혈하였고, C. arakawae, C. circumscriptus, C. homotomus, C. nipponensis, 및 C. pulicaris는 닭과 소 모두를 흡혈한 것으로 나타났다.
Light trap study of the biting midge and the immunological blood meal sources of its host were carried out in Kyonggi Province, Korea to investigate the seasonal abundance and their hosts according to the species of the genus Culicoides trapped in the cattle and poultry farms in 1988∼1989. A total of 16 species were collected during this study including 3 undeterminated species. Culicoides nipponensis was the predominant species in the cattle farm, C. arakawae in the poultry farm. The highest peak of C. nipponensis occurred in the first week of August with 3,510.0 individuals per trap/night in the cattle farm, and C. arakawae marked the highest peak in the second week of June with 12,153.5 in the poultry farm. Blood meal sources of Culicoides revealed that C. amamiensis fed on poultry, C. oxystoma on cattle, and C. arakawae, C. circumcriptus, C. homotomus, C. nipponensis and C. pulicaris fed on both cattle and poultry.
