저자들은 한국산 불개미류의 계통분류학적 연구를 수행하기 위하여 한반도의 남한과 부속도서를 채집지역으로 하여 1990년 3월부터 1992년 9월까지 약 5만 5천개체의 개미를 채집하여 이용하였다. 해부현미경을 이용하여 동정된 표본들은 영국자연사박물관의 모식표본과 여러 학자들로부터 기증받은 보증표본과 비교하여 검증하였다. 개미의 분류에서 유의성있다고 인정되는 형태학적 형질 중에서 양적인 형질들을 측정하여 분석한 후 유집분석하여 폐노그램을 얻었다. 일단백질을 전기영동하여 얻은 젤을 가지고 밴드계산법으로 각 종간의 행렬표를 만들었다. 이들을 평균하여 평균 행렬표를 만들고 유집분석하여 폐노그램을 얻었다. 위의 두 가지 폐노그램을 비교분석한 결과 유의성있는 유연관계를 알게 되었다.
In order to study this research, approximately fifty five thousand ant specimens of genus Formica were collected around Korea and offshore islands from March, 1990 to September, 1992. All the specimens were identified using stereozoom microscope, and compared with the voucher and type specimens of the British Natural History Museum. Quantitative morphological data, which were measured by scale of stereo microscope, were analyzed, as were genetic variances of general protein on the basis of electrophoreti data by PAGE. Four species, which were available for collecting alive, and in sufficient numbers, were used for electrophoresis. Afterwards, results were computed by UPGMA (unweighted pair group method of arithmetic averages) to obtain phenograms. As the result of comparing both the morphological and electrophoretic phenograms, we found that although they were similar each, they were slightly different in degree of similarity. So, it was deemed that phonogram of this taxon was reliably established without any problems.
