Finite element procedure in order to trace the geometric nonlinear behavior of plane frames with semi-rigid connection is presented. By modeling semi-rigid connection as linear rotational spring and invoking the equilibrium conditions for both the semi-rigid connection and frame element, the end rotations and stiffness matrix for semi-rigided member are evaluated. As a result, the tangent stiffness matrix for plane frame element with four edge conditions (semirigid-semirigid, rigid-semirigid. semirigid-rigid and rigid-rigid condition) are exactly derived and how to evaluate the unbalanced load vector is considered. Numerical results are presented for the selected test problems which demonstrate that the presented method represents reliable and highly accurate tools.
