Building of computable declarative models of the provisions of engineering design standards has been a vital issue in practice, and the various approaches and representations have been proposed over the long time. These efforts, however, have exhibited limited success and general-purpose design program have not been widely used. This paper addresses difficulties of representing design standards, introduces modeling efforts, and describes a decision table representation and logic programming implementation of design standards processing with application to steel plate girder design.
