Improvement on wash & wear property of silk fabrics was expected when silk fabrics were treated with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) using the pad-dry-cure finishing method. The authors investigated the crosslinking of silk fibroin by BTCA and suggested the reaction mechanism in this paper. The infrared spectroscopic data indicated that cyclic anhydride intermediate was formed when BTCA was heated. The reaction between silk and BTCA resulting in ester and amide groups was confirmed from the analysis of IR spectrum. The crosslinking between silk fibroin molecules was also confirmed by DSC and TMA analysis. The wet crease recovery angle of BTCA treated silk fabrics generally increased with the increase of BTCA concentration, curing temperature and curing time, and even after repeated launderings wet crease recovery property was almost maintained.ions. Also, the regeneration effect on the exchangers capacity were investigated.opy and the extent of crosslinking reaction was observed by increasing the UV irradiation time or heat treatment time. Cross-linked polyurethanes exhibited higher stress than linear polyurethane at the same strain level. The chemical cross-linkages between diacetylene groups appeared to make more stable hard domain to the external deformation.
