애기뿔소똥구리 (Copris tripartitus)는 우리나라에서 서식하고 있는 소똥구리종으로, 월동한 성충은 다음해 봄에 출현하여 초여름부터 산란하기 시작하며, 새로운 성충은 그해 가을에 우화한다. 애기뿔소똥구리는 지하 15~20 cm 이하로 우분을 운반하여 소세지 모양으로 저장한 후, 소세지 모양의 우분 덩어리를 이용하여 산란시 2~3개의 난괴를 동시에 만든다. 암컷은 알이 부화하여 성충으로 우화할 때 까지 brood care를 하고, 실내조건에서 6월과 8월에 걸쳐 산란하였다. 알이 안착된 brood ball의 내부 크기는 장경이 8.0$pm$1.1mm, 단경이 5.5$pm$0.4mm이었고, 알의 크기는 장경이 4.7~5.7mm, 단경이 2.4~3.2mm이었다. 알은 $25^{circ}C$에서 부화기간이 7.7일, 유충은 31.2일(종령3령), 번데기는 18.4일이 소요되었고, 알에서 성충이 출현하기까지 소요 일수는 57.3일이었다.
The dung beetle Copris tripartitus Waterhouse is native to South Korea. It is univoltine with a new generation of adults emerging each autumn. After a period of feeding, the young adults enter a state of hibernation (diapause) and overwinter below ground. They emerge in spring and lay eggs in early summer. Males and females cooperate to form an underground brood chamber at depths of 15~20 cm. The chamber is stocked with enough dung to form 2~3 brood balls, each of which contains a single egg. Females engage in brood care and remain with their eggs during development. Under laboratory conditions, females oviposited between June and August. Brood balls were ovoid in shape and averaged 8.0$pm$1.1 mm in length and 5.5$pm$0.4 wide. Eggs ranged from 4.7~5.7 mm in length and 2.4~3.2 mm in width. The durations of egg and larval development took 7.7 days and 31.2 days respectively. Pupal development took 18.4 days, giving an egg-to-adult development time of 57.3 days.
