Hantavirus is a genus of the Bunyaviridae family causing two serious diseases, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). The entire coding region and the 4 truncated regions of the S segment were expressed in E. coli (JM109) for the evaluation of the antigenicities. Two highly conserved regions of S segment were also expressed in E. coli. These regions have 85% and 94% amino acid identities, showing the higher identity compared with that of entire coding regions of S segment, 63%. The proteins were introduced to ICR mice to analyze the capability of the antibody against the viruses belonging to the hantavirus and its antigenecity was analyzed by IFA (immunoflourescent assay). Three out of expressed 7 proteins showed positive by IFA. Interestingly, the N-terminal truncated protein (amino acid $1{sim}75$) shows the intensity as strong as the total capsid protein. This region has 48% amino acid identity and is a diverse region compared with other part of the capsid protein. One highly conserved region with 85% amino acid identity shows the positive signal, although it is not so strong as that of the total capsid protein. These antibodies will be further analyzed for the neutralizing activities of viruses belonging to the hantavirus genus to determine the capability of viral protection.
