Nanocomposites of poly(ι-lactide) (PLA) and organosilicate were prepared using a melt mixing method. PLA nanocomposites with partially exfoliated structure can be prepared, only when an organic modifier present in organosilicates, Cloisite 30B. in this study, interacts favorably with PLA. The partially exfoliated silicate layers increase the crystallization rate of PLA and dynamic storage moduli of PLA below the T$_{g}$ of PLA. However, the increase in crystallization rate and storage moduli is also accompanied by the formation of low molecular weight oligomers of PLA during sample preparation, verified by GPC measurement. As the content of 303 increases the tonsils modulus of PLA/30B nanocomposites increases but the tensile strength and the strain at break decrease. The drop is attributed to the formation of non-exfoliated aggregates at higher organosilicate contents. the insufficient adhesion between PLA and silicate layers, and the formation of PLA oligomers.s.
