정보사회의 도서관은 실물자료의 집적소 및 이용공간, 네트웍 및 웹자원에 대한 접근점, 평생교육의 지원시설, 지식정보의 제공기관으로서의 역할을 수행해야 한다. 이러한 역할은 국가 및 자치단체의 문화 정책에서 도서관이 핵심요소로 취급될 때 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구는 도서관 및 독서문제가 문화혁명의 메뉴로 부상하여 주무부처에서 종합적인 발전계획을 마련하고 있는 차제에 그 동안 국내에서 집행되었거나 수립 중에 있는 도서관·정보정책의 스펙트럼을 다각도로 분석하고 신세기의 정책적 지향성을 모색하고자 한다.
The most typical roles of libraries in their information societies are public access points to the networks, providing teaching and training, assisting in knowledge resource discovery, and knowledge providers. In order to fulfil these roles, libraries should be a ky element in national and local cultual policies. Effective policy making is the most important responsibility of libraries as well as national and local governments and one of library management tools for running the library. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to review the spectrum of the library and information policies in Korea and suggest some desirable directivities for library policy making.
