Configuration management is a process that establishes and maintains consistency of a product with its requirements and configuration information throughout its life cycle. This paper deals with the improvement of configuration management for weapon system. We analyze configuration management system, organization, human resource, regulations, and automated system of USA. Then we apply the ideas to our proposal for the improvement of configuration management. The proposal for the improvement of configuration management consists of three parts. The first one is the improvement of configuration management for weapon system by R&D, the second one is the improvement of configuration management for weapon system by foreign acquisition, and the last one is the improvement of configuration management in the aspects of organization, human resource, regulations, and automated system. This paper will be contributed to the activation of configuration management system and the efficiency of acquisition project management.
