Emphasized in this paper are past experiences of disasters by l kinds in Korea and various problems facing the country compared to those of Japan, together with definition of disasters both natural as well as man-made. In chapter 3, R&D subjects performed or to be performed by various research organizations in Korea are briefly introduced, and necessity of active investment to prevent those disasters are strongly suggested on the part of government.
