This study has two research objectives; the first is to explores the current situation of social work field practicum at the community welfare center and the second is to develop the desirable direction for more effective social work field practicum at the community welfare center. While social work practicum can have distinct characteristics by the different practicum settings, previous research has not paid attentions on such distinctive characteristics. In addition, previous research has normatively discussed the direction for social work field practicum without considering field practicum instructors and supervisors. Therefore, this study attempts to overcome the limitations of previous research and discussions with combining a focused group interview approach and a survey approach on the largest site, the community welfare center, for social work field practicum in Korea. On the analysis of both the qualitative data by the focused group interview with field practicum instructors and supervisors and the quantitative data by the survey on field practicum coordinators and direct supervisors at the community welfare centers, this study highlights the major tasks in social work field practicum at the community welfare center and provides developmental direction for specializing and strengthening social work field practicum at the community welfare center in Korea.
