Students with learning difficulties are suffering from low achievement and school failures. Although numerous variables(e.g., funding, professional support, and administrative organization) are related the quality of instructional services provided to students with learning difficulties, teacher or teaching is the most important part of the instructional system. In this vein, the academic therapist is an emerging alternative for quality instruction to the students with learning difficulties. The purpose of this study brings forth the needs and roles of academic therapist in relation to special education and suggests the implications of Special Education Teacher Licensure curriculum for the academic therapist training programs.
