The purpose of this study was to investigate the character and the physical condition of destruction of Hanok by analyzing transformation of housing type in Hanok residence in Seoul since 1970. For this requirement, the data which were obtained by the disused land registration maps, the aerial photographs and the registered building data of 12 Hanok residence was used. The results of this study were as follows; First, in certain time and site, some housing types were predominant. Second, Hanok residence is the important detached house area in Seoul since 1930s. Third, Hanok lasted about 10 years longer than other housing type. Fourth, the area, the length of access to roads and the development of surroundings affected the occurrence of reconstruction of Hanok.
