The aim of this study is to obtain the fundamental data possible to make the guideline or the criteria of modern envimental-friendly design method for housing estate through a survey on the korean traditional village. Nakan-eupseong is selected as one of the traditional villages and surveyed by the classification system of environmental-friendly drsign factors in traditional village. The classification system in traditional village is composed of 6 large scale, 13 medium scale and 54 small scale articles. The results show that the items such as land-use, eco-space, resources and energy conservation, water-use, and environmental pollution are applicated very well, but the afforestation of residential environment is not applicated well, and the peculiar design factors such as ramparts, waterway and wells are investigated in Nakan-eupseong.
