이 연구는 국내의 특수교육 개론서에서 다루고 있는 시각장애 분야에 대한 내용을 분석함으로써 향후 특수교육 개론서 집필에 주는 시사점을 찾는 데 그 목적이 있었다. 분석 대상은 2009년부터 2011년까 지 국내에서 발행된 특수교육 개론서 총 27권이었다. 분석 결과 첫째, 특수교육 개론서 27권은 2009년 11권(40.7%), 2010년 9권(33.3%), 2011년 7권(25.9%)으로서 3년 동안 매년 7권 이상 발행되었으 며, 시각장애교육 전공교수가 저자로 집필에 참여한 개론서는 8권뿐이었다. 둘째, 특수교육 개론서 시각 장애 영역의 내용은 시각장애의 정의 100%, 원인 70.4%, 눈의 구조 66.7%, 출현율 33.3%, 특성 85.2%, 판별 및 진단평가 74.1%, 교육중재 96.3%를 제시한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과에 근거 하여 향후 특수교육 개론서의 시각장애 영역 집필 방향에 대해 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the content of the chapters on visual impairment in the books of introduction to special education. A total of 27 books published in the years from 2009 to 2001 were selected and analyzed. Most of the book chapters (70.4%) were written by authors whose specialty area was not the education of students with visual impairments. The book chapters were fairly consistent in the organization (i.e., definition of visual impairment, causes, anatomy of the eye, prevalence of visual impairment, characteristics, assessment, and interventions) but somewhat inconsistent in content of each area. The implications for authoring a book chapter on visual impairment in introduction to special education were discussed.
