This study was done to investigate the general characteristics of elderly institutional residents and the influence
of the relationship between the demographic variant characteristics and ego-identity to the quality of life. Also, to
analyze each factor, the target group of elderly are hospitalized in nursing homes which are located in the Daegu city.
General factors which affect depression, self esteem, activities daily living, life satisfaction and relationship between the
demographic variant characteristics (maintainment of marriage, family and form of living together, acknowledgement of
health, economic power, religion, social activities and exercise in daily life, daily medicines) are collected by questionnaire
from personal interviews. This data was analyzing each group’s average and it’s analysis of variance and correlation and
the results are as follows. 1) Depression level which is showing the statement of negative mental health is influence by
acknowledgement of health, economic power and daily medicine. 2) Self-esteem and life satisfaction which are showing
the statement of mental health are effected by age, economic power and daily medicine. 3) Activities of daily living which
is showing the statement of physical health is effected by acknowledgement of health, economic power, form of daily
exercise and daily medicine. 4) Each measurement to asses quality of life were in highly interrelating.
