대학 미술계의 교육은 전통예술의 계승은 물론 새로운 예술의 창작을 통하여 새로운 문화를 창출해 낼 수 있는 예술가를 육성하는 것이 목적이다. 본고에서는 이에 대한 효과적인 실시 방법으로 수묵화기초교육을 예로 들어 다음과 같이 제기하였다. 미술의 창작은 A=내용, B=재 료와 기법, C=시각언어의 3종요소가 결합하여 하나의 표현 형태로 나타나게 된다. 여기서 A 의 내용은 곧 ‘정신으로’ B의 재료와 기술은 ‘손으로’, C의 미적질서, 시각언어는 ‘눈으로’ 부 터 이루어진다. 그러므로 소위 기초능력교육은 바로 이 3종 요소의 능력을 고르게 배양시키 는 것이어야 한다. 수묵화에서의 정신으로의 교육은 작가로서의 예술수양을 기르는 것이다. 과거 문인화가들은 학문적 조예와 생활경험 그리고 예술전통에 대한 계승을 중요시했다. ‘손 으로’의 교육은 작가로서의 표현기량의 연마이다. 과거의 수묵화는 서법의 선조미(線條美)에 바탕을 두고 선조를 조형 기초의 방법으로 삼았다. 필묵의 결합은 선조의 표현력을 풍부하게 했으며 나아가 선과 색이 필묵 중에 융화되어 표현에 있어서 미묘한 변화와 효과를 얻게 되 었다. ‘눈으로’ 는 대외사물에 대한 감수능력과 예술형상으로 표출하는 능력의 함양이다. 과거 동양의 화가들은 대자연의 세계에서 미의 핵심을 찾으려 했으며, 그 생기발랄한 생명의 본질 을 체득하여 자기의 미적감수와 체험을 통하여 예술형상으로 나타내고자 하였다. 이에 본 연 구에서는 21세기 ‘다원문화주의(多元文化主義, Multiculturalism)’ 시대 과거 수묵화의 우량한 전통을 되살려 현대수묵화 기초조형교육의 일환으로 적용해야할 필요성이 요구됨을 강조하고 있다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of the cultivation of basic abilities for ink and wash paintings in university art education. This study suggests the basic education of ink and wash paintings as the practical way to educate artists. The art work appears as a combination of: A=contents, B=material technique, and C=language of vision. The contents of A is 'with mind', the material technique is 'with hand', and lastly, the language of vision is 'with eye'. Therefore, the education for basic abilities of ink and wash paintings is the way for balanced education. The purpose of this study is to research the traditional ink and wash paintings and implicate the way of the modern basic ink and wash paintings education. This study attempts to bring and increase attention to the fact that in traditional ideas and art, there are more emphasis given on the various value in traditional ink and wash paintings. Considering the contemporary cultural context, the multi-dimensional study on the various meanings of traditional ideas are very essential for contemporary application.
