이 연구는 교육의 원리에 근거해 <에밀>에서 Rousseau가 제시한 교육론을 재구성하는 것 을 목적으로 한다. Rousseau의 교육론을 연구한 대부분의 학자들은 Rousseau가 제시한 자연 에 근거해 그의 교육론을 탐색해 왔다. 그러나 ‘자연’이 루소의 사상에서 핵심을 차지한다 하 더라도 교육론은 결국 교육의 문제를 다루는 것이기에 Rousseau의 교육론을 탐색하기 위해서 는 그가 제시한 교육을 자연보다 우선해야 한다고 판단된다. Rousseau는 교육을 개념, 방법, 원리의 차원에서 논의하고 있는데, 이 연구는 그가 제시한 교육원리에 주목하여 교육론을 탐 색하였다. Rousseau의 교육론을 교육의 맥락과 목적, 자연적 발달과 사회적 발달의 조화, 행 복과 교육의 단계, 자유와 교육의 주체로 재구성하였다. 그리고 각 주제별로 교육의 주요 원리 와 그 원리가 갖는 의미를 <에밀>에서 Rousseau가 제시한 예시를 통해 설명하였다. 교육에 초점을 둔 연구는 자연에 초점을 둔 연구와 다른 모습을 보여줄 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 결 론에서 차이를 보여줄 것으로 예상되는 주제를 제시했지만, 실제 어떤 차이가 있는가를 드러 내기 위해서는 별도의 후속연구가 필요하다.
Studies in the history of educational ideas tend to focus on the contribution of Rousseau to the development of naturalistic trends in modern education. The book of Emile is a kind of half treatise, half novel that tells the life story of a fictional man named Emile. In it, Rousseau traces the course of Emile’s development and the education he receives. This paper engages in an inquiry into the educational theory of Rousseau in terms of educational principles that are proposed in book of Emile. An attempt was made to characterize and explain the educational theory of Rousseau. The focus is upon four aspects of theory of education; three aims of education, harmony between natural and social development, happiness and stage of education, liberty and subject of education.
