The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of acculturative stress
on the relation between perceived social support for married immigrant women and their
life satisfaction.
A structural equation model analysis was conducted on subjects of 145 married
immigrant women who are living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The findings of this study
can be summarized as follows:
First, it was appropriate for the mediation model to establish acculturative stress as a
mediating variable in the relationship between the social support and the life satisfaction
of married immigrant women.
Second, the results indicated that social support has a positive effect on life satisfaction
and a negative effect on acculturative stress.
Last, the results of verifying the mediation effect of acculturative stress showed that
acculturative stress is a partial mediator between social support and life satisfaction.
Based on the results, the authors suggest that practical implications and intervention strategies
are needed to improve the quality of life and satisfaction of married immigrant women.
