본 연구는 A사관학교 지원자 423명의 NEO검사 결과를 입시전형이 이루어지는 각 단계에 따라 분석하였 다. 분석결과, 지원자들은 친화성(A), 성실성(C)이 높고 신경성(N)이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 사관학교 2차 입학시험 대상자 중, 면접을 실시한 지원자는 면접을 실시하지 못한 지원자보다 외향성(E), 사회성, 리더 십, 활동성, 유능감이 높고 자손감, 불안, 우울, 신체감이 낮았다. NEO검사에서 성실성(C)은 거의 모든 면 접항목과 관련이 있었으며, 면접에서 내용요소는 NEO검사 5요인과 가장 상관이 높았다. 사관학교 합격자 는 불합격자보다 성실성(C)이 높고 신경성(C)이 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 기초군사훈련 참가자는 미참가자 보다 온정성이 높았고, 수료자는 도태자보다 사회성, 온정성이 높고 우울이 낮았다. 기초군사훈련 도중 자 퇴를 고려한 경험이 없는 지원자는 경험이 있는 지원자보다 신경성(C)이 낮고 리더십, 활동성이 높은 것 으로 나타났다. 이는 사관학교 입시 전형이 이루이지는 각각의 과정에서 성격적 강점이 있고 정신건강이 높은 지원자가 사관학교 최종 입학에 유리하게 작용할 수 있음을 시사한다.
This study analyzes the results of the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI) for 423 applicants to Military Academy A based on each stage that influences admissions decisions. As a consequence, the applicants showed high levels of Agreeableness (A) and Conscientiousness (C) and low levels of Neuroticism (N). In the group of qualified applicants for the second round of the entrance examination, those who were interviewed scored higher on Extraversion (E), Gregariousness, Leadership, Activity, and Competence, and lower marks on Self-derogation, Anxiety, Depression, and Psychosomatic than the ones who were not. In the NEO PI, Conscientiousness (C) was related to almost all of the interview questions, and the content element in the interview was the one factor correlated most strongly with the five domains of the NEO PI. The admitted cadet applicants displayed higher Conscientiousness (C) and lower Consciousness (C) than those who were not. Those who participated in the basic military training showed higher scores on Warmth than the ones who did not. The applicants who completed the program showed higher levels of Gregariousness and Warmth, and lower Depression than those who did not. Lower Consciousness (C) and Higher Leadership and Activity were found in those who never considered dropping out of the training than those who did. These findings suggest that in each process involving admissions decisions, the applicants with certain fortes in their characters along with stronger mental health were found to be more advantageous for the final admission to the Academy.
