The commercialization of continuous waste plastics pyrolysis process has not been succeeded in our
country due to several technical problems related to waste plastics charging, discharging of residues,
efficiency of heating and heat transfer, production of high boiling point oil, production of Cl
compounds from PVC. In this research, it was attempted to develop an advanced continuous pilot
scale waste plastics pyrolysis plant with which the technical problems of the conventional process
were settled. The problems were settled by combining an inclined screw type waste plastics transport
equipment, a CSTR pyrolyzer, and an inclined screw type residue pyrolyzer. A 60 kg/hr treatment
scale continuous system was built and the continuous operation of this system was conducted for
longer than 60 hrs without any mechanical troubles. The result of continuous operation using
simulated waste plastics mixtures(PP:PS=60:40 or LDPE:PP:PS=40:36:24) showed that 73.9∼79.5% of oil
yield was possible with this system.
