대다수 문화권에서 인구 고령화로 인하여 파생되는 다양한 사회적 문제를 겪고 있으며, 그 중 하나는 바로 고령운전자가 증가 하면서 그들이 연루된 교통사고도 증가한다는 것이다. 이에 본고에 서는 고령운전자의 증가와 교통사고의 관련성을 토대로 여러 문화 권에서 시도하고 있는 교통사고 예방 방안을 탐색했다. 또 고령자와 관련된 교통사고 예방의 방안으로 고령운전자의 운전면허의 부분적 제한의 타당성 여부와 그 대안으로 공공 안전을 위해서 고령운전자 의 사업용 차량 운전에 국한시켜 제한하는 것이 가능하거나 타당한 지를 논의하였다. 후반부에서는 운전자 요인에 의한 교통사고 예방 을 위해서 고령자 요인에 대한 관점도 중요하지만, 연령과 상관없이 더 주요한 부분을 포함시킨 운전적성정밀검사 관리를 강화시키는 방안을 제안하였다.
Most modern societies have been facing with a variety of social problems owing to aging population. One of the problems would be to grow the number of older drivers and to increase the number of automobile accidents that the older drivers have involved. Thus, it was discussed whether it would be appropriate to limit the validity of older driver’s license, especially for commercial use, as a preventive measure of the accidents in this paper. At the last part of the paper, the authors maintain that a better driving aptitude test to assess comprehensive abilities related to safe and quality driving should be developed.
