The purpose of this study was to examine the mediation effect of hope in the relationship between perceived career-related father’s/mother’s support and career preparation behavior in 452 first- and second-year high school students whose both parents had job experiences. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the study model and also to compare path coefficients between gender groups. The results of SEM indicated that hope fully mediated the relationship between perceived career-related father’s/mother’s support and career preparation behavior. In terms of gender group differences, it was found that there was a stronger relationship between hope and career preparation behavior in a female group. The present study was notable because, it explored both father’s and mother’s impacts on student’s career preparation behavior respectively and also tested a mediation effect of hope in the relationship between perceived career-related father’s/mother’s support and career preparation behavior. In addition to the applicability of the current findings in career counseling and career education, limitations of the present study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
