This study aims to summarize the historical research in educational administration(HREA) in
Korea, to analyze the approaches and areas of the HREA, to present the directions and tasks of
HREA. To this end, focused on the development of the HREA, the research results of
Kanggilsu, Angiseong, Jeongtaesu, Chodongseop, Parksoojung was summarized as a historical
research done so far in terms of educational administration. The approaches of the HREA are
the description through the historical research method and the analysis through the educational
administrative perspective and research methods, and it is necessary to interpret the position in
terms of educational administration environment at the time. The area of the HREA are divided
into the practice, the theory, and the education, and the historical approach should be made to
the specific area. Tasks for the HREA are 1) departure from the current educational
administration concept, 2) historical research on the transition process of individual education
institution and administration, 3) interest in the history of science and education in educational
administration, 4) educational and research associated with such other disciplines dealing with
the history of the administration. To build a foundation for the HREA, providing learning and
research opportunity for the HREA is important.
