This study began its research with an argument that if a revised yoga activity program
is designed with a focus lied on physical・cognitive characteristics of individuals with
intellectual disabilities, not only will the revised yoga activity program improve ʻquality of
lifeʼ of the challenged people but it will also give them chances to communicate with
others. As far as the study understood, such program will then contribute to lifelong
education and welfare of the challenged people.
In order to develop its research on yoga activities of obese women with intellectual
disabilities, the study analyzed samples that had been gained from four obese women with
intellectual disabilities who were working for B Protection Workshop Facility located in A
Community Welfare Center, and the samples consisted of video tapes on the four women,
the womenʼs pictures and logs that a researcher and the research participants had kept.
Regarding a study with no taped video images contained, the study used the researcherʼs
and the research participantʼ logs. In official・unofficial face-to-face or call interviews
with information providers who were a director of the center, a social welfare worker in
charge of the four women and two mothers, the study was offered basic information on
the research participants and confirmed the information. As for the (plan of) yoga activity
program targeting obese women with intellectual disabilities, the study aimed to conduct
a basic yoga activity program consisting of 20 sessions.
How a particular asana is excluded and how the program is made of transformed
activities are presented as key differences between the (plan of) yoga activity program
and the yoga activity program.
