The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of domestic separation-individuation related research
and to suggest a direction of the future research. For this purpose, 97 journal articles and dissertation
papers on separation-individuation, written from 1992 to 2015, were analyzed. The findings are as follows:
first, the number of articles has increased consistently since 2000. Second, topics related to psychological
traits hold the first rank(21%) as a research topic, followed by in the order of efficacy verification,
emotion, attachment, adjustment, career, and relationship. Third, college students(41%) were most preferred
as a subject of research, followed by in the order of adolescents, adults, children, mother-child, and
toddlers. Fourth, 84% of all analyzed research were quantitative research while 16% were qualitative
research. Regression analysis holds 54% of the current quantitative research. Qualitative research has been
carried out since 2002 and so far most of them are case studies(75%). Finally, this study proposed
suggestions for the future studies on separation-individuation.
