12 pictures of experiments in elementary science texts are given to 12 elementary school
teachers and each take one picture. And they write down possible errors happening in
their own experiment. Also all the pictures are given to a physics professor and he write
down one physically most important possible error happening in each experiment. Then
we analyze the causes of each suggested error. The analysis shows that the teachers’
errors are caused only by some visible objects, students and devices. On the other hand,
the professor suggested diverse errors with invisible as well as visible characteristics. From
this, we can see that the teachers have little knowledge of causes of experimental errors,
in particular, with invisible characteristics.
