오갈피나무의 결실 특성이 우수한 우량품종을 선발하여 영양체 번식율을 높이기 위해 취목번식법으로 재배하면서 종묘의 생육특성을 조사하였다. 오갈피나무속 식물의 종에 따른 가지당 종묘수와 종묘당 근수는 섬오갈피나무가 가장 높은 수치를 보였고, 가시오갈피나무에서 가장 낮은 수치를 나타내었다. 무경오갈피나무의 열매 우량품종은 섬오갈피나무보다는 낮지만 각각의 측정한 수치는 3.5와 3.3으로 양호한 성적을 보였다. 종묘의 초장은 개오갈피나무, 무경오갈피나무 및 지리산오갈피나무가 20cm 내외로 비교적 우량 종묘를 얻을 수 있었고, 섬오갈피나무와 가시오갈피나무는 크기 가 저조하였다. 취목 시기에 따른 생육특성은 가을(11월 20일)과 익년 봄(3월 10일)에 실 행한 것이 우량묘목 생산에 효과적이었다. 연생별 무경오갈피나무의 취목은 4년생 성목에 서 개체 당 종묘수와 10a당 종묘수의 수치가 높게 나타내었다.
This study was investigated to find the growth characteristics of Eleutherococcus species grown under layering propagation. Numbers of saplings per branch showed the highest values in E. koreanum and those of roots per sapling showed also the highest values. Those of saplings and roots in E. sessiliflorus were lower by 3.5 and 3.5 than those in E. koreanum, respectively. When E. sessiliflorus were grown under different seasons, numbers of saplings per branch and roots per sapling were almost same between plants layered in Nov.20 and Mar.10. When E. sessiliflorus were grown under different plant age, numbers of saplings and roots showed the greatest values in 4 year plant.
