The purpose of this study was to examine pre-service teachers' expectations about development of young
children from multicultural family. The subjects of this study were 238 pre-service teachers in a 2-year,
3-year, 4-year university located in South Chungcheong and Gyeonggi Province. Participants checked on
the checklist or wrote the answer to the open question. The data were analyzed through descriptive
statistics, t-test, content analysis. From this analysis, we drew the following results. First, pre-service
teachers appeared to show high expectation in good manners than in other areas of young children's
development from multicultural family. Second, pre-service teachers' expectations for the development of
children from multicultural family reveals group difference. So pre-service teachers showed higher
expectations in the development of children from unmulticultural family than that of children from
multicultural family. Third, in compared to peers, pre-service teachers' expectations about children's
development from multicultural family appeared in four aspects. The reasons for the level of expectations
indicated in this study were associated with the family members including parents, personal experiences,
and the stereotype. Based on the results, this study suggested the need of teacher education which
encourages pre-services teachers to possess the appropriate expectations about development of young
children from multicultural family.
