In Korean New Religion, the study on ultimate reality provides a useful
aspect that deals with metaphysic issues of religion. Daesoon thought, in
particular, suggests clearly the values of harmony and integration, which can be
commonly shared in Korean New Religion, while uncovering the ultimate
reality, and forms a unique metaphysical theory of its own. It shows various
concepts of ultimate reality including the concept of Sangje(Supreme God) and
Shinmyeong(gods of heaven and earth) as well as Dao(道), Mugeuk(Infinity,无
極), Taeguek(the Great Ultimate, 太極), Daesoon(Great Itineration, 大巡),
Cheonji(Heaven and earth, 天地) and Jigi(Utmost energy, 至氣). This feature is
considered as universalness because it includes various concepts of ultimate
reality referred in each religion. The universalness has been classified into four
categories according to the concepts of ultimate reality that are directly
described in Daesoon thought. However, it doesn't mean that it just lists all
the different aspects of ultimate reality, but means it has a nature to mix all
the aspects and consequentially harmonize and integrate them. Such harmony
and integration is represented through the thought of ‘Injon’(Human of nobility,
人尊). Thought of ‘Injon’ is a idea that places human being on an equal status
to a god, and represents a human who pursuits morality and, as a being equal
to heaven and earth, has a value of implicating energy of all living creation.
When we approach the matter of ultimate reality, which is an ideal value of
religion, not as some lofty ideal, but as something of humane dimension, the
various aspects of ultimate reality can be more internal and become part of
daily value of our life. In addition, being able to integrate various aspects of
ultimate reality in one religious thought means it could form a theoretical
foundation which goes beyond exclusiveness that religious thoughts have, and
overcome the confrontation and conflict between humans. It means the Korean
thought of integration and harmony is projected into the fundamental matter of
religion. From this perspective, it can be meaningful to do the work of
verifying universalness of ultimate reality in Daesoon thought and study ‘Injon’
thought as its tool of unification.
