This study aims to verify whether the group art therapy is effective in improving the Rape Myths and
Empathy Quotient of sexual offenders. The subjects were 30 sexual offenders who were imprisoned: (the
experimental and comparative group each consisted of 15 sexual offenders.) The experimental group had a
four-sessions-a-week art therapy program, a total of 16 sessions from August 28 through September 31,
2014. The comparative group was counselled with manuals from the Ministry of Gender Equality and
Family for the sexual offenders for four-session-a-week, a total of 16 sessions from October 21 through
November 14, 2014. The tools of analysis include the Rape Myths scale and Empathy Quotient scale. The
repeated measure of two-way ANOVA was performed on the differences by time and group. The results
demonstrated that, firstly, the group art therapy had a positive effect on the improvement of rape myths of
the sexual offenders. Secondly, the group art therapy had a positive effect on the improvement of the
empathy quotient of the sexual offenders. The positive effect was especially in the cognitive empathy
quotient among inferior factors of empathy quotients. The results showed that the group art therapy was
effective in improving both the rape myths and empathy quotient of sexual offenders.
