The objective of this study is to analyze the research trends in the field of corporate education in the
period 2000–2014. In total, 201 articles were analyzed, and the following four research questions were
addressed. First, which phase of the human resource development (HRD) process (analysis, design,
development, implementation, evaluation) is the most commonly studied? Second, among HRD staff core
competencies, which is the most commonly addressed? Third, which research method (quantitative
research, qualitative research, literature review) is used most frequently? Fourth, which type of research
institution (public agencies, businesses, universities, research institutions) produces the most research
papers? The results are as follows. First, in terms of the HRD process, the highest number of papers
focused on analysis (113 research papers; 56.2%). Second, among HRD staff core competencies,
professional competence is the most commonly addressed (96 research papers; 47.1%). Third, among
research methods, the quantitative approach is the most frequently used (119 research papers; 59.2%).
Fourth, among the various types of research institutions, universities are responsible for the greatest
number of papers (259 research papers; 71.5%). As for future work, to extend these findings, first, it is
necessary to diversify the analytical framework when analyzing research trends. Second, in order to
validate the research trends in corporate education in Korea as suggested by the results of this study, it
is necessary to extensively study the flow of corporate education by examining research published in the
neighboring Journal of Learning and Performance, publications by international organizations (ATD, ISPI),
doctoral theses, master’s theses, and books related to corporate education.
