The purpose of this study is to develop the STEAM program that would allow design and build
the resistant structures in earthquake. It was also to investigate the effects on change of academic
achievement, creative problem solving abilities, scientific inquiry activity and scientific attitude of elementary
science gifted students. An object of study is 29 students of 2 classes training in J University Scientific
Gifted Institute. As application results, the post-test of the STEAM program class with the theme of an
‘earthquake-resistant design’ improved significantly in academic achievement, creative problem solving abilities
and scientific attitude than the pre-test. Also, in satisfaction test result, inquiry activities and problem solving
process during student's learning were interesting and helpful. So ‘earthquake-resistant design’ shows that
we could be used as learning material of scientific inquiry. Therefore, the STEAM program class with the
theme of ‘earthquake-resistant design’ is positively affected on students' interest as well as their academic
achievement, the creative problem solving ability and the scientific attitude. In future, it is required the
development of the STEAM programs such as this study.
