이 연구는 장애인관(障碍人觀)에 대한 역사철학적으로 비교한 동ㆍ서 담론이다. 연구결과, 장애ㆍ장애인에 대한 동ㆍ서양의 인식이 서로 달랐 다. 즉 사유방식의 기본구조에서 차이를 보인다. 서양의 고대 철학자 플 라톤은 수호자와 철인(哲人)을 인간의 이상적 모델로 삼았다. 이는 인간 을 완전체(完全體)과 불완전체(不完全體)로 이야기하면서 인간을 기능적 으로 본 것이다. 그러나 동양의 고대 사상가들인 공맹(孔孟)의 이상형은 군자(君子)이며 이는 인간에 대한 사랑(仁)으로부터 출발한다. 동ㆍ서양 의 중세시대(中世時代)에 들어오면 서양에서는 장애ㆍ장애인(障碍ㆍ障碍 人)을 죄받음의 결과에 의한 것으로 보았다. 이는 기독교의 성경(聖經)이 증명한다. 원죄설(原罪說)도 이와 같은 맥락이다. 따라서 장애ㆍ장애인은 신(神)에 의지하는 불완전한 인간 중에서도 더 불완전한 인간이 된다. 이 는 여전히 플라톤의 완전체과 불완전체라는 인간에 대한 이분법적 사유 체계를 잇고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 반해 동양에서는 공맹의 유가(儒 家)사상을 이어받아 여전히 인간에 대한 사랑이 사상적 원류(源流)로 작 용한다. 특히 한반도(韓半島)에서는 장애인을 가족부양의 원칙과 사회제 도로써 정책적으로 드라이브가 되었다. 즉 동양에서는 장애인을 더불어 살아가는 사회적 약자로 보았고 이에 대한 지원정책을 펼친 것이다. 이 연구는 동ㆍ서양의 장애인관을 역사철학적으로 살펴본 바, 동양의 장애 인관은 서양과 달리 일반인(정상인)과 동일한 사회구성원으로 보았으며, 장애인을 차별하지 않고 멸시(죄를 받은 사람)의 대상이 아니라 보호의 대상으로 보았음을 밝힌다. 장애인은 일반인과 비교하여 ‘잘못된 것’ 혹 은 ‘틀린 것’이 아니라 다른 것이다.
This study relates to the Viewpoint of People with Disabilities. This study compared the history and philosophy of the East and the West. The results were as follows. The spirit of the East and the West for the disabled are different from one another root. The ancient philosopher Plato in the West shared the human body in a healthy body and an unhealthy body. And he saw a man in functional terms. But the ancient philosophers, namely Confucius and Mencius argued a Love for Humans. Love for Humans is Humanity and Justice(仁義禮智信: benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity). East and West in the Middle Ages, also recognized for the disabled were different from each other. The philosophy of the West saw the disabled as a result of sin. But Eastern is still emphasized their love for humans in accordance with the philosophy of Confucius and Mencius. In summary, the results are as follows. Disabled recognition of the East and the West is different. Eastern philosophy was considered a disability in the same society. and Eastern philosophy did not discriminate against the disabled. Disabled in Oriental philosophy was not the subject of contempt. Rather, people with disabilities was the subject of protection. Disability is not a 'wrong' or 'wrong thing'. Disabled is just a little different.
