This study aims to illuminate the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of municipal solid
waste (MSW) gasifier. The gasification technology has emerged as one of the promising
technology in treating the MSW. Waste-to-energy plants based on gasification are power plants
that utilize MSW as their fuel rather than conventional sources of energy like coal, oil or
natural gas. Gasification processes involve the reaction of carbonaceous feedstock with an
oxygen-containing reagent, usually oxygen, air, steam or carbon dioxide, generally at
temperatures in excess of 800 ℃. In this work, the study on CFD analysis of MSW gasifier was
performed for pilot scale of 3 kg/hr. The model is based on the ANSYS package which
represents a powerful tool that can be used in gasifier design and analysis. The results
obtained from CFD analysis for the pilot scale gasifier were compared with those of the
experimental results. The result obtained from the CFD analysis model agrees well with the
experimental result.
