This study examined the effect of mother’s parenting stress and father's child-rearing involvement on
working alliance and the moderating effects of child-rearing involvement between parenting stress and
working alliance. The subjects were 178 mothers of children who attended psychiatric centers or welfare
centers. The following scales were used: Working alliance scale developed by Hovarth and Greenberg(1989)
and revised by Choi, S.(2003), parenting stress scale developed by Abidin(1990) and revised by Kim,
H.(1995), & child-rearing involvement scale developed by Choi, K.(1992) were used. The data was analyzed
by multiple regression analysis and multiple moderating regression analysis. The results were as follows.
First, parent’s pain in mother’s parenting stress & housekeeping activities in father's child-rearing
involvement were variables which explained tworking alliance. Second, leisure activities in father’s
child-rearing involvement moderated the relationship between parent’s pain in mother’s parenting stress and
working alliance. Leisure activities in father’s child-rearing involvement moderated the relationship between
dysfunctional interaction in mother’s parenting stress and working alliance.
