본 연구는 예술가의 생애사를 통해 예술의 이해를 넓히고, 성인의 삶의 의미를 형성하는 교 육적 효과를 얻기 위한 방안을 모색한다. 예술가 생애사는 미술수업에서 많이 활용되는 내용 이지만, 왜곡된 이해 때문에 교육적 효과가 저하될 수 있다. 이를 공감을 통해 극복하고자, 공감적 상상력을 발휘하여 인간적인 관심으로의 깊이 있는 공감과정을 유도하고자 한다. 이 때, 성인들의 특징과 요구를 고려하고 예술가 생애사의 특징을 반영한 상상력의 과정과 방법 이 필요하다. 이것을 상상의 개념과 과정에 대해 창의적인 제안을 한 가스통 바슐라르의 상 상력을 통해 즉 ‘표면과 심층의 구별’, ‘변형과정’을 적용하여 설명하고자 한다. 문화예술교육 분야에서의 재조명된 공감은 공감적 상상력을 필요로 하며, 구체적인 상상과정으로 심화된 공감적 상상력의 이해는 예술의 이해를 넘어 성인 개인 삶의 의미발견과 더불어 사회적 공감 과정을 이끌어 줄 것이다. 본고는 마지막에 이해를 돕는 사례와 함께 예술가 생애사를 통한 공감적 상상력을 형성하는 과정과 방향성을 제시하고자 한다.
